One of the things my small family enjoys doing is going on staycations. Dubai has so much to offer when it comes to hotels and resorts. Almost all big hotel chains can be found here. Sometimes hard to pick one especially during peak season. The best time to go staycation though is during summer as rates are normally low and includes plenty of offers.
Our first staycation this summer is at Gran Millennium Al Wanda, Abu Dhabi. It’s about an hour and a half drive from Dubai.
My little one is really excited for her first summer staycation because it’s been a month since her last swimming. She was not allowed to swim after her Adenoidectomy last June. I’ll write a separate post about it.
Back to the hotel, plus points were:
It has a nice location. The hotel’s 3rd floor will lead you straight to Al Wahda Mall which is very convenient especially this summer time that it’s almost 40C + outside.
There’s caribou just across the hotel. 😉 I just love Caribou so I’m happy to see it there.
The room is spacious and is complete with toiletries but my only concern is that we were placed on a ‘smoking room’ and the smell is really strong. We’ve requested for a spray but after two sprays there was still a bit of smell. They weren’t courteous to offer a room transfer, probably because the hotel was fully booked. I didn’t bother asking as we’re settled already and it’s just an overnight stay anyway.
The swimming pool is covered but with the current weather, you’ll still sweat since the cover is glass. If I remember correctly, the pool is on 30th floor 😉
I give a minus points for:
Breakfast spread is limited. It’s what I always look forward to when I stay at hotels so this one pretty much disappointed me. Good thing the mall is just a parking lot away from the mall, where plenty of choices for restaurants. They have Olive Garden inside Al Wahda Mall. 🙂
Room Rate. The amount I paid (AED 600++) is not worth it (my pov). Other hotels can offer more with almost the same rate.
Service is not that nice as well. We requested for water bottle and it took them so much time. The concierge / receptionist as well don’t seem to be that welcoming.
I would still recommend this for an overnight stay though if you’re not going to stay at the hotel and will do shopping and tour around the area.
